How to Honor Your Mother at Your Wedding

Moms often don’t receive the recognition they deserve, so in honor of Mother’s Day, let’s dive into a few ways to honor your mother on your big day!

1. Have Her Join You Down the Aisle

While traditionally the father-of-the-bride walks the bride down the aisle, this is a great opportunity to honor your mom by asking her to join you. Alternatively, if you choose to have someone else escort you down the aisle, your mother could join you at the alter to “give you away.”

2. Save a Dance for Her at the Reception

There are several options to celebrate your mom with a dance at the reception. First, you could have a traditional dance with her after the mother and groom/father and bride dances. Secondly, you could open up the dance floor with a song dedicated to you and her. Lastly, you can close out the reception with a dance with your mom. Here are a few song recommendations:

  • You’re My Best Friend by Queen
  • I’ve Been Waiting For You from Mama Mia! Here We Go Again
  • Mama’s Song by Carrie Underwood
  • Mother by Sugarland

3. Repurpose Her Wedding Gown

If your mom is willing to part with her wedding gown, there are endless possibilities on how to repurpose it to use on your big day! Here are a few ideas: bride’s bouquet wrap, handkerchief, bridal veil, or my personal favorite, a getting ready robe. To make it even more special, use your mom’s gown to create you and her matching getting ready robes. Check out Etsy or Unbox The Dress for some great options.

4. Give a Heartfelt Gift

There are endless options for mother-of-the-bride gifts! Check out Etsy or Amazon for some great choices, but here are a few of our favorites:

  • Personalized Portrait
  • Jewlery
  • Engraved Champagne Flute
  • Wedding Merch (MOB shirt, sweatshirt, shorts)

5. Help Her Choose a Fabulous Mother-of-the-Bride Dress

One of the best ways to honor your mom is to make sure she looks fabulous on the wedding day! Just as it’s tricky to find the perfect wedding gown, many mothers-of-the-bride struggle to find a dress. A few considerations to keep in mind are the dress code of the wedding, budget, color scheme, and fabric preference. Check out JJ’s House, Dillards, and Azazie for some good options.
