New York- Talya Bendel and Esty Haas debuted their first collaboration, Talya Bendel – Haas Bridal on October 13th, as part of the CFDA’s New York Fashion Week Bridal shows, on the grand staircase at the Woolworth Building downtown, to rave reviews.
The mostly modest collection is inspired by historical beauty, and pulls Baroque aspects from design, architecture, and grandeur. There is a deco undertone of sensational sharpness and angularity present in most looks. Each of the 16 luxurious looks forces the question, “In what century or decade did this bride come from?” The collection is a tour of history’s finer fashion moments.
Bendel remarks, “Many expressive themes and places are suggested in the design elements, including the Yew Tree Ball at Versailles, circa 1745, and a 1920’s Hamptons soiree. One or two brides later and you’ll have arrived at the Teatro Di San Carlo in Italy in the 1800’s for their opening night. Be it ballet or opera. This collection is meant to make you feel that you are in the presence of greatness.”
With antique qualities like Edwardian lace and subtle corsetry, each bride tells a different story. Always romantic, yet independent, each look represents a woman who is head strong but weak in the knees for the exuberant and the ornate.
The Talya Bendel – Haas Bridal collection starts with Esty Haas, a Hasidic custom bridal gown titan from Williamsburg. Haas comes from a long line of passionate and talented seamstresses, with both Hasidic grandmothers becoming her mentors in design and sewing at a young age.
Located in Borough Park, a massive Hasidic hub in Brooklyn, The Haas Bridal atelier has developed a loyal client base in and out of the Jewish community for 15 years. Haas has dressed thousands of “Kallahs” (Yiddish for “brides”) from all over the world including Australia, Israel, Belgium, London, Canada, Spain, Ukraine, Vienna, and more.
Haas was thrilled to partner with Talya Bendel who brings 15 years of experience in the fashion industry in costume and wardrobe styling for film and television. Notably, Talya has been featured on The New York Times’ best dressed list three times. She has held creative positions with Christian Siriano as well as styling roles for Netflix with Titus Burgess, Warner Brothers, Paramount, and Roc Nation to name a few. Her work spans a web series, short film, music album trailer, commercials, and promotional content.
Both hailing from Brooklyn, New York, and bonded by their Hasidic and Orthodox backgrounds, Esty and Talya were thrilled to have a successful first showing with over 180 bridal and fashion industry guests, media, and family and friends.
Sponsors and Partners included Birch Events for the Production Design, Florals, and Décor; O.J. Williams for Casting; David Weisz Fine Jewelry; Yocheved Gross, Cami Esses, and the Hair and Blush team for Hair and Makeup; Nina Shoes, The Knockturnal for show consulting; and TeddMed Inc. who provided B12 and IV Drips.
