Their Story:

With some persuasion and the clock ticking over another year, Aasha decided it was time to venture into online dating, knowing little that she would meet the love of her life, Anish. After they’d talked a bit, Aasha says, “I knew he was the one based on our conversation and respect for each other. It’s hard to explain but it’s more the saying ‘when you know, you know.’”

After the couple had been together for some time, they decided to take a summer road trip from Florida to Chicago to meet up with Aasha’s brother and his kids. “As soon as we checked into the hotel in Chicago, Anish said ‘C’mon, let’s go for a walk by the Navy Pier.’ That was where it all happened. It was a beautiful day with all the boats in the water and that was where he asked the question. Funny thing is, a few steps away, we saw a wedding party and noticed another couple got engaged! It was a beautiful moment for everyone. My brother called saying he was almost at the hotel. So, as soon as we got there, I showed him my hand and he was in shock. It was so exciting and I guess Anish tested out our relationship by surviving a road trip before he popped the question. We didn’t have one fight on that road trip!”

For their special day, they didn’t have a theme, per se, but rather worked with vibrant pink shades to match Aasha’s lehenga (gown). The reception featured shades of white and blush, with gold, to match the elegance of the venue’s ballroom. Aasha notes, “Our ceremony took place outside on the lawn with a beautiful sunset and intercoastal waterway in the back. It was a traditional Hindu ceremony. Normally, an Indian wedding is lengthy, but we completed it all in 30 minutes. Thank you to our wonderful pundit for working with us.”

For a special, yet traditional touch for their wedding, Anish rode in on a horse for his baraat (the first part of a traditional Indian ceremony).

For the reception, they chose stunning floral arrangements in blush, white, gold, and pinks. Aasha says, “We wanted something unique, tall, and elegant to fill up the gorgeous ballroom. Special Events delivered beyond our expectations. A huge shout out to our cousin Kanishk for helping us design and print the ceremony, menus, and table cards.” They chose to use online-only invitations for their 400+ guests.

For the sangeet, the ceremony, and for the reception, Aasha wore a different custom made lehenga. “Thankfully, my in-laws helped tremendously as they were able to travel to India before our wedding. All outfits were selected on Facetime with my mother-in-law.” Anish also wore three outfits for the event: traditional attire for the sangeet and ceremony, then an exclusive tuxedo from Giorgio Armani for the reception.

Their cocktail hour featured refreshing beverages at a wide range of stations, along with passed hors d’oeuvres, while live violinists serenaded the guests. They kept their toasts simple with only the parents and one best friend of the bride and groom offering toasts. For dessert, they had a huge dessert table with stations placed throughout the venue and had an ice sculpture cake instead of a traditional cake.

Aasha and Anish had their first dance to the Hindi version of “A Whole New World,” with dance moves from their dance lessons.

Congratulations to you both as you celebrate your love continually!
